The Transportation Security Agency (TSA) will screen you and your bags prior to boarding the aircraft. This screening allows you and your baggage to travel to your destination without any further screening.
To expedite the boarding process, it is highly recommended that you place all your jewelry, watches, coins, belts, money clips, glasses, cell phones, shoes, coats, etc. in the plastic trays provided. TSA will then run the tray through the carry-on baggage x-ray machine while you walk through the metal detector.
TSA closes the checked bags screening station 30 minutes prior to departure and opens the passenger/carry-on screening station 20 minutes prior to departure.
For the flight to depart on time, it is not possible to re-open the checked bags screening station once it has been closed.
Please arrive an hour before your scheduled flight to ensure that all flight arrangements and security measures can be completed. Ticket counter and flight closes 30 minutes prior to departure.
Because airline personnel must process paperwork, load bags (and sometimes de-ice airplanes) the airline check-in counter is closed 30 minutes prior to departure and cannot be reopened until after the flight departs.
If you booked your ticket on American Eagle/American Airlines you have several alternatives to traditional check-in.
Select the one that suits you.
Flight Check-In on AA.com - Flight Check-In can be found on the AA.com home page, or under the 'Reservation' tab. Flight Check-In is available if your flight is less than 24 hours but more than one hour from departure. Login to AA.com or enter the passenger name and record locator, print your pass and you're ready to go. Round Trip Flight Check-In is also available. Check in and print your boarding passes for both your outbound and return flights at the same time (as long as your return flight is within 24 hours of initial check-in). For more information on Flight Check-In on AA.com, visit www.aa.com/checkin.
Each passenger departing Manhattan Regional is allowed:
- Two checked bags (no more than 50 pounds each)
- One carry-on item such as a purse (as long as it will fit under the passenger seat)
- And one gate-checked bag (as long as the dimensions of that bag do not exceed: 22" long, 14" high and 9" wide, which is the typical size of a bag that will fit in an overhead bin).
"Gate-Checked" means the airlines ground staff will take your bag from you as you come out to board and place it in the aircraft's baggage compartment. Your bag will be waiting for you at the bottom of the stairs as you come off the aircraft.
Baggage restrictions vary from airline to airline. It is recommended that you check with your connecting airline if you are unsure about their requirements.
Bags should be locked with TSA approved locks, which can be opened by TSA personnel, using a universal key. The approved locks can be purchased locally and come in a variety of colors. Non-approved TSA locks will be cut off in the event the bag needs to be opened.
It is not recommended taping boxes shut prior to check-in and TSA screening, as they may have to be cut open for inspection of contents.
Baggage security screening equipment will ruin undeveloped film in checked bags.
Carry-on baggage security screening equipment will not harm film with less than an 800 ASA rating. Film with a rating over 800 can be hand inspected by TSA during the carry-on inspection process.
You can only carry guns and ammunition in checked bags, and you must make the existence of these items known to the ticket agent at check-in. The unloaded guns and ammunition must be stored in locked, hard-sided cases (separate containers acceptable) within the baggage to be checked.
Pets traveling on American Airlines / American Eagle
Pets traveling in the cabin require a reservation to ensure no more than 7 pets are booked on any single flight. For this reason, it is recommended that you make arrangements for your pet in advance by contacting Reservations.
Checked pets do not need a reservation.
NOTE: Dog show participants should be aware that capacity is sometimes reached, and checked pets are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Check-In
Passengers traveling with pets must check-in at the ticket counter. At this time, curbside or self-service check-in is not allowed. Please allow extra time beyond normal check-in guidelines. However, checked pets will not be accepted more than 4 hours prior to your flight time.
Types of Pets Allowed
Cats and dogs are the only types of pets accepted for travel on American Airlines. We maintain the right to refuse acceptance of any animal that is exhibiting aggressive behavior.
Pets must be placed in a kennel or travel container, which must be large enough for the animal to turn completely around, with no part of the animal touching the top of the kennel. Absorbent material must cover the bottom of the kennel. Food and water (preferably in the form of ice) must be provided for the pet for the entire trip. The devices used to dispense the food and water should be attached to the inside of the kennel door.
Kennels can be taken onboard the aircraft as carry-on, but the pet must remain in its kennel throughout the entire flight. If the kennel is too large to fit under the seat directly in front of the passenger, it must be carried in the aircraft's temperature controlled, pressurized cargo compartment as baggage.
If you intend to transport your pet by air from Manhattan Regional, it is highly recommended that you research the "carrying live animal" polices of your connecting airline.
Generally speaking, prohibited items are any items that may be used as a lethal weapon. For more information about these new carry-on restrictions go to: 3-1-1.
The prohibited items list now includes liquids, gels, and aerosols. If you wish to take any of these items in your carry-on bag, their containers must not exceed 3 oz in size and must be stored in one (clear), quart size plastic zip lock bag. Only one quart bag per passenger. The quart bag must be placed in the carry-on baggage x-ray transport bin for screening prior to the passenger going thru the walk-thru metal detector.
Larger items, such as baby food, milk and prescription medications, do not have to be stored in a zip-lock bag, but their presence should be made known to TSA personnel.
